Travelling from Munich to Amsterdam

We have 3 days 4 nights to travel from Munich to Amsterdam and would like to travel via the water. What's the best way. Rent a car + Train + boat. Any suggestions.

Taking trains all the way.

1•Munich to Heidelberg (1N)
2•Morning in Heidelberg, then to Koblenz (2N)
3•Day trip to Trier
4•Day cruise for Rhine castles, then to Cologne (1N)
5•Cologne to Amsterdam

We have 3 days 4 nights to travel

Not sure I am getting this. Do you really mean 4 days and 3 nights? Or 5 days and 4 nights?
Anyway, here is my take.

Day 1: Travel from Munich to Mainz (about 4 hours) and spend the night (1N)
Day 2: Take the 9:30 KD boat from Mainz to Boppard and spend 3 nights (1N).
Day 3: Visit Rhine castles using VRM tickets for the trains and buses, return to Boppard (1N)
Day 4: Visit Mosel valley to Cochem, Burg Eltz, wine festivals if its a weekend. Use a VRM day ticket to travel on the trains and buses, return to Boppard (1N)
Day 5: Train to Amsterdam (about 5 hours)

That way, you have a base in Boppard for 3 nights and can travel with VRM tickets as far south as Oberwesel, cross the Rhine at ferry points. as for up the Mosel as Bullay and Zell, and as far north as Linz. You can flip days 3 & 4.
