Travelling around in Munich & Zone 4

Hi Ladies and Gentleman,

We are planning on arriving in Germany in early October. We are curious about the travel. Our sleeping arrangements are in Tutzing. We are going to be using the train while staying in Munich, unless it would be more affordable for a car.

What are your opinions? I see these day cards, but those appear to only be good in zone 1 and 2, not to zone 4 (Where Tutzing is).
So we would have to pay for those trips separately?

We can get a car rental for 20 EU / day, which seems like it would be the cost of traveling too and from Munich to Tutzing twice a day with 2 people. What about parking? Is this going to be a concern?

Thanks for helping me understand!

The trouble with a car in Munich is parking. That can cost more than the rental. And it may not be where you want to be. I'd use train/subway/streetcar if I was just going to be in and around the city, especially if I was planning on attending Octoberfest. Parking for that can be miles from the fest, and you really don't want to get a ticket for drunk driving.

Tutzing is in zone 3 (€8,70 to Munich center). Are you sure you can get a car for €20 including full CDW? Still, you would have to add fuel and parking (approx €20 / day in the center). Train will be faster anyway (take a regional train if possible, not the S-Bahn).

Ah Yes! Ok, great! The Group Ticket is what we want! :) That is much more affordable. Thanks Sam!
