My wife and I will be in Frankfurt at the end of the month with a brief layover at Heathrow. We've been to Europe before but my wife now wears an insulin pump. Will there be any concerns getting this through security either in London or Frankfurt?
Probably not a big deal. You'll want to verify whether or not she is good to go through the scanners with her pump. If you are also traveling with anything that might normally be a no (sharps, extra liquids, etc.) those will likely get checked with those little wands. When I have traveled with students needing insulin they've had a doctor's note explaining their individual needs (to have a separate pat down and not go through scanners, have extra liquids, etc.). To be honest, it's often much more of a hassle in the States than in European airports.
I’ve traveled with an insulin pump and blood glucose sensor through many airports in Europe and the US. I’ve been told repeatedly to NOT go through the scanner that you hold your hands up and the scanner moves around you. I always give my medical reason for requesting the walk through scanner, which is fine for us. There are times I’m refused so I just ask for the pat down. I agree with the previous poster that it is usually more difficult in the US. Have a great trip!
