Traveling to Konstanz/Lake Constance by flight and train

I am traveling from Charlotte NC to Konstanz and need some advice about the options.

My options seems to be to fly to Zurich with 2 flight connections, and then take the short train to Konstanz.
Or take a direct flight to Munich and then take the longer train to Konstanz.

Are there any thoughts about arriving in Zurich versus Munich to get to Konstanz?
Is the train from Zurich much easier/different than the train from Munich to make it worth the extra flight connections?
Thanks

The journey from ZRH airport takes less time with fewer changes.

Diane, welcome to this newsboard with your first post. What website are you using for flight searches? Just to be sure, are you going to Konstanz, Germany, or somewhere else on the lake, maybe not so close to Konstanz?

I understand that flight cost is a significant factor for most travelers, but I don't see why the only option from CLT involves three flights. Maybe if you can use two different airlines, you can fly to Atlanta or NYC for a direct flight to Zurich? But I have flown United from EWR (Newark) to Charlotte, and United to Zurich from Newark, NJ. That would be only one airline.

From Zurich Airport you have a direct train to Konstanz every hour. From Munich airport you will not have a direct train.

I see lots of single connection flights from CLT to ZRH, and they seem to be a lot less expensive than the nonstop to MUC.

Of course, in total time, it may be a wash as the extra time for a flight connection cancels out the shorter train journey from Zurich airport. Still fewer train connections (like none) from Zurich airport. You do not say when this trip is.
