Traveling in Germany with adult grandchildren

I am taking my two grandchildren who are brother and sister and are 21 and 23 years old. respectively. Is it possible to get a room with three beds or do I have to get two rooms which could be very expensive. We will be traveling to Bacharach, Nuremberg, Fusson, Munich and Salzburg

Go to Booking.com and put in a location and the dates you will be there, then hit search. When the results come up you will see a list of filters on the left hand column. Select "family rooms" and it should show you options with multiple beds.

It's possible, but triple rooms are somewhat rare. Be sure to very carefully read the fine print - sometimes a "triple" is a queen bed plus a single bed - if you three separate beds, this won't work. Also sometimes the third bed is a cot or a pull out sofa. Hostels could be an option because you can often book a four bed room for private use, which may be cheaper than two hotel rooms. Some hostels are very nice, and not just for the backpacker crowd. Also you didn't say when you're going, but booking way in advance will ensure you get the best choice for your situation.

You should probably be looking at apartments - maybe something like the Weber apartment (used by the Untours tour company) in Bacharach. You'd have ample room and some of the conveniences of home:

In German - browse photos:

Some apartments are available at booking engines, others through local tourist office websites. You might contact the local tourist office about booking this apartment or others in Bacharach:

Without exception, in 6 cities in Germany/Alsace, our "double" beds were actually 2 twin beds close together, with separate linens. (The covers are usually a duvet for each person, no top sheet.) Given that, I think that in most cases, you'll find a triple room will actually be three beds, and maybe you and your granddaughter are comfortable being close to one another (rooms are typically smaller than we are used to in the US with two queen sized beds). Many places have at least one such room, but you have to book early!

Edited to add: I found hotel staff very competent answering emails in English, so if you want to be sure, just ask them!

Agree with Carol-
I used booking.com to find hotels and apartments for my upcoming trip (4 of us, 2 tween/teens). They do have options for 3 or 4 people. Just not as many as for 2, but I was able to find rooms all over Germany. You can usually see what the bed arrangement is, and choose one that has 3 twins or something else that might work for you guys.
