Traveling from Prague to Munich by train. Stop along the way?

We are looking for a relaxed place to spend a few days on our 3-week vacation with kids. Someplace to reset a bit! Timing-wise, it looks like fitting this between Prague and Munich would work best. And we'll be on the train. Can anyone suggest a small town or even a city (as long as it isn't too busy and has easy access to the mountains) that would be on the train route? We'd love for it to be in Austria, but are flexible. Thanks!

The direct train from Prague to Munich does not go through Austria. There are some low mountains along the way. If you are talking Alps, it is a long detour between Prague and Munich.

Fuerth-im-Wald might be a good spot. The train stops here. Do some research. Use translate function for these sites.

The detour through Austria, Vienna to Salzburg to Munich makes sense. Stop in Salzburg, visit the Salzkammergut, or drop by Prien en Chiemsee halfway between Salzburg and Munich.

We are ok with taking a detour off the direct route from Prague to Munich. So something that's 5-6 from Prague, but then within 2 or so hours from Munich would be great.
