Traveling from Nurenberg to Munich International Airport

We will have one of our group needing to get to Munich International Airport from Nuremberg. He would like to travel by train to be in Munich for a noon . How do we go about getting him a oneway ticket by train to catch his noon flight? Thanks.

You can buy at the station. 60 euro, or if you can commit to an advance purchase, as low as 39 euro bought on line up to 90 days out (nonrefundable). www.bahn.com. 8:02 departure, 10:06 arrival with a change of trains to the S-bahn at Munich Hbf.

A quick check of bahn.de shows a departure from Nürnberg Hbf at 06:32. It gets into München Hbf at 08:05. Ten minutes later an S8 train leaves from the lower level of the Hbf and arrives at the airport terminal at 08:55. I'd be reluctant to cut it much closer than that for an international flight.

Normal price for that trip is 41,60€. But if he's traveling on a weekend or holiday he can do it on a Bayern-Ticket for 23,00€. On weekdays Bayern-Tickets can't be used until 09:00.

Actually, the advance purchase, limited refundability Savings Fare tickets go on sale 92 days before the travel date and, for trips under 250 km, which includes Nürnberg to the Munich airport, start at 19€/person (29€ for two). However, there are a limited number of tickets available at the lowest fare, and when these tickets sell out, the fare goes up. Nürnberg to Munich on an ICE is a very popular route, which is why right now, for Jun 7, the first day of availability, the price is already 25€ for one (and tickets for the train have only been available for about 16 hours!)

These Savings Fare tickets can be purchased online from the German Rail schedule page.

There does not appear to be a practical connection other than the two already mentioned above.

You might consider having that person take a regional train the evening before with a 23€ Bayern-Ticket and staying in Freising close to the station. There are 20 minute bus connections every 20 minutes from in front of Freising Bhf to the airport in the morning. That way they wouldn't have to get up so early. Plus, if the got to the station late, and missed the bus, there is another one in 20 minutes. Hotel Zur Gred in Freising is only ¼ mi from the bus stop to the airport and a simple room with a single bed costs 62€ for a night (and I think that includes breakfast).
