My husband, son and I are traveling to Germany and France in a few months, April. We had heard there may be requirements of applying for a travel visa in Europe. But from what we can find on the internet that requirement has been pushed back to 2025? Is that correct?
Yes, EITAS has been moved to at least 2025, maybe longer, who knows. The EU has been working to implement a new entry system to the Schengen zone, and that has had a number setbacks, EITAS is tied to that. The EITAS is more providing basic information ahead of arrival to streamline the entry process, rather than a formal Visa, though most news agencies and the respective agencies often refer to it as a Visa.
Just to clarify- it is ETIAS, and is not a visa, but a pre arrival authorization for passport holders of visa exempt countries.
Just for clarity, EITAS is not a visa, and will only apply to Americans able to travel to specific countries for stays of up to 90 days (per 180-day periods) under the Visa Waiver Program.

EITAS will be similar to the ESTA authorization currently required for citizens from visa-waiver countries to the US. Travelers who are currently required for have visas to travel to countries which require them will still need them. IMHO, it's sort of important to understand the distinction lest there be confusion about who need a visa and who will need EITAS.
Edit: Sorry for the redundancy Cjean; was typing at the same time you were.
