Travel to Dachau

We will be visiting the Dachau Memorial next week and understand from the web site that public parking will be experiencing partial closures due to construction, with the recommend that public transport be utilized. We will be traveling by rental car from the Munich area, and are wondering what our best options are. We are contemplating taking a chance that parking will be available at the camp, and first attempting that option. Plan B would then be to head to the Dachau railroad station, park there, and then ride the recommended bus to the camp. Does anyone have a better idea, or know of a different way that we could get there via public transportation traveling from North of Dachau? Thanks

The best way is to not have a car in Munich and to use the extensive public transport in the area..all the way to Dachau Memorial. The train drops you at the Dachau Bahnhof which is just a little bus station-there is no parking there. The bus will drop you right at the entrance to the memorial entrance.

Tim, I mis-spoke. We will be driving from the Eichstatt area, about an hour's drive North of Munich, so we will be in our rental car. We won't have the car in the central city. Thanks

There is a parking lot on the east side of the tracks at Dachau Bahnhof. Use the under-track passageway to get to the bus stops on the west side of the station.

There are hourly trains from Eichstätt to Dachau (some with a transfer in Ingolstadt, some direct, details on bahn.com). There is a parking lot at the
station "Eichstätt Bahnhof"(there is none at "Eichstätt Stadt").
I wouldn't expect to find parking space on a workday after 8am at the Dachau station.

If you have already visited, hope it all worked out. If not, here is my experience: there was also partial parking closures for our visit in June, and when we arrived directly at opening time, about half of a small parking lot was full, so we got parking. If you do plan to drive, perhaps arrive at opening time to help ensure a spot. We went on a weekday.
