Travel the week before Oktoberfest

Hello all,

We are planning a trip to Italy, (2020) but wanted to fly into Munich and stay a few days first. But, we realized it would be right before the start of Oktoberfest. We were thinking of staying Tue/Wed/Thur nights (it starts 2 days later on Saturday). So my questions are: do hotels and Airbnb's start charging more in the week leading up? What about airfare prices? Should we consider skipping Munich on this trip?

I just checked a couple of random hotels in Munich. For the days leading up to (Edited: 2019) Oktoberfest the rate was €79. Beginning the first Saturday of Oktoberfest - but not before that - it jumped to €179.

Maybe check this year's rates for hotels you are interested in for 2020...if they still have availability.
