We will be traveling from Wroclaw, Poland to Dresden, Germany in May 2015. We plan to stop in Goerlitz for a few hours. We thought that we could book this through Bahn, de. , but this is not showing a train from Wroclaw to Dresden. Does anyone know if there is a train between these two cities ?
A cursory look through the DB site seems to show no passenger rail connection between Zgorzelec and Goerlitz, even though they are across the river from each other. There is hourly bus service between Zgorzelec Miasto station and Goerlitz bahnhof.

Hi,
Going from Wroclaw to Dresden requires you to change twice, in Poznan and Berlin, a roundabout way of going to Dresden. I took part of the route in 2001, went from Wroclaw to Cottbus, which a transfer point. You can try Cottbus to Dresden.
The route through Poznan and Berlin takes almost 10 hours. Going Wroclaw to Zgorzlecek, takes 2 1/2 hours, and Goerlitz to Dresden takes 1 hour and 18 minutes, giving you the afternoon in Goerlitz, a lot less time riding the rails, and less money to boot.
There was a train from Wroclaw Glowny to Gorlitz (12:36 to 14:37), when we were planning our trip a month ago. Now on the bahn.de, eurorail and polrail.com web sites there are no direct trains. The city of Zgorzlecek did not show up as a valid destination. There are also no trains showing from Wroclaw to Dresden. There are trains from Gorlitz to Dresden almost every hour. So our problem is getting transportation from Wroclaw to Gorlitz. We also saw no direct bus service between these two cities. Any ideas other than driving?
A Thousand apologies for my poor Polish spelling. Here it is directly copied from the DB site:
Zgorzelec Miasto
I find this version of the news in the March edition of European Rail Timetable updates:
POLAND
Disappointing news recently announced is the withdrawal of all crossborder
services between Go¨rlitz and Wrocław from March 1 (Table
1085). Reports suggest this is due to a lack of funding and it means
there are no longer any passenger services operating across the
border between Go¨rlitz and Zgorzelec. Hopefully a financial solution
can be agreed and the service restored at some point in the future.
Hi,
You can avoid that long pause going from Poznan to Berlin by taking the day route, ca two hours. I've done that a couple of times, it's part of the Berlin to Warsaw express.
Thank everyone for the responses. We did find trains from Wroclaw to Zgorzelec, with a transfer in Weglinec that takes 2-1/2 hours. Then I guess we will just get a taxi to the train station at Gorlitz, which appeared to be very close (less than 10 minutes). After seeing Gorlitz will take one of the trains to Dresden, which depart fairly frequently. Thanks again.
