My husband and I will be in Oberammergau in July and want to get to either Lugano or Stresa. My questions are:
1. Lugano vs. Stresa -- they both look like beautiful locations. Any thoughts on which location provides more beautiful scenery and relaxation? We want to stay on the lake.
2. How is the best way to travel from Oberammergau to either of these locations? Train looks to be about 9 or 10 hours with multiple transfers. Is flying from Munich a better option?

If you can get to the station by 5:07 am, you can be in Lugano by 2:26 pm with only 4 train changes, or Stresa by 3:29 pm. That's about 9 1/2 and 10 1/2 hours respectively.
To fly, you can probably leave a little later, by 5:56 am, and get to Lugano by 2:55 pm and Stresa by 2:27 pm. So that is 8 1/2 to 9 hours. You will have to make 2 train changes to get to Munich airport from Oberammergau, and i would certainly consider getting on the plane at Munich as a change, and getting off the plane onto a train or bus at Malpensa a change as well.
Take your pick.
PS. I'll take Stresa.
