We are a group of 6 adults traveling from Munich to Dusseldorf the day before a Tauck cruise in December. We plan to leave around 1 pm and were thinking of train (almost 5 hours) vs flying which is less than an hour flight. Several people have told me that the train travel is better and so my question is first or second class.
I am also happy to hear others thoughts on whether flying or train is better. thank you for your help.
When you add the almost one hour to get from your hotel to the airport, and the 2 hours at the airport before the flight, plus the time from the airport to your new hotel, the difference isn't much. With a train you only need to arrive 15-20 min before departure, and you depart and arrive in the city center.
You can read about the differences between 1st and 2nd class on the Man in Seat 61 website. We've always been perfectly satisfied with 2nd class. If you want to guarantee that you will all be seated together, pay extra for seat reservations in addition to the train ticket.
