Travel from Frankfurt Airport to Strasbourg FR

I need to travel to Strasbourg FR from the Frankfurt airport. My plan was to take the Lufthansa bus but I don’t think I will have enough time to catch the one closest to my flight arrival and would have to wait several hours for the next one after a long flight. Are there other suggested ways to get to Strasbourg that would be better than waiting at the airport several hours?

And on that note, if I do have to wait a few hours, if I disembark from my flight but don’t have a connecting flight, could I use one of the nap pods or do you have to go directly to passport control? I have only been to that airport in transit and not for quite a few years

Thanks!

Take a local train from the terminal to the main train station in Frankfurt. Then get on the ICE 9564 or TGV 9512 trains. they go direct to the main train station in Strasbourg. Takes 2.5 hours, more or less.

There are other trains, but these two are direct, no changes.

Hi there, just to add some details about getting to the FRA (airport) train station, as I just did this on Friday -

I assume you're coming in from international, outside the Schengen zone? So you should arrive in Terminal 2, international. You will need to get to Terminal 1, well signposted to catch a train into Frankfurt. There is a bus through a heavy duty construction zone, that connects the 2 terminals, they're about a mile apart, not a pleasant ride, as I found out. Second option is to take the Sky Train (I think it was called), which gets you between stations in a few minutes. Note to self - I was so happy I packed light!! I think it was a 15-minute walk from the International arrival hall to Sky train (or to the bus for that matter.) Just stop and ask people along the way. So build in enough time to get to Terminal 1, then board a train into Frankfurt as suggested above, to catch the ICE.

I would also download the DB (Deutsch Bahn) app. You can see train departure times, etc.

If you arrive from outside the Schengen Area that does not imply you arrive at terminal 2. LH group, and *A flights will arrive at terminal 1, and from there you just walk to the train station. Just follow the signs.

Yes, I’d be arriving from the US, not sure what terminal that would be. I’m pretty experienced with trains in Europe, but since I can never sleep on the plane, I’m hoping for the solution with the fewest steps. When I’ve been searching for trains I haven’t really seen any nonstops the Strasbourg. I’ll look into the direct trains mentioned above. How far from the airport station to the main one? I also saw there was a train could take from the airport via Offenberg.

You will be changing trains at least once regardless. The suggestion of going to Frankfurt Hbf for a direct train means you will be changing trains at Frankfurt Hbf coming from the airport. I would just take the first convenient train once you arrive that has only one connection. That means you could be changing trains in Mannheim, or Karlsruhe, or Offenburg

Flix bus goes from the Frankfurt airport to Strasbourg. (At least it did last summer.) It is likely the least expensive option and doesn't require any transfers.

Yes, I’d be arriving from the US, not sure what terminal that would be. - I would suggest you download the app for your airline, sometimes it comes in handy. And you can check either there or on the website for the arrival terminal. Maybe you're flying LH, which apparently means you'd arrive in Terminal ! (which I did not know), so that makes it easier to make the train in the basement.

Why not wait until you land to decide? I would absolutely not stop for a nap, or anything else before immigration. Immigration could take 10 minutes up to maybe 30 minutes (or longer). Also, download the DB (Deutsche Bahn) app, load a credit card onto it ahead of departure. I found it quite user-friendly, and it will let you know if a train is running late. Print out the info on both trains and bus, if there's an app from LH for the bus, load that up too. It gives you more options when you land. I find it lowers my worry if I'm flying transatlantic to have more info at my fingertips. Have a great trip!

Thanks, yes I looked and my flight would arrive at terminal 1. Wasn’t sure if I had to prepurchase tix or not, but I have also now downloaded the DB app and makes sense to add a card to it now. I think I prefer the option of getting a train, I prefer trains to buses!
