Transportation to Munich Airport

Hello everyone. Family and I are traveling to Munich in early October and I wanted to know how easy is it to get to and from the airport to Munich and about how long it takes. Thank you.

Very easy, via S-Bahn that has a station down the escalator just across the plaza from Terminal 2. Both S1 and S8 go from the airport to the main train station downtown, though by different routes and different stops along the way, and both take about 40-45 minutes to make the trip. S1 runs generally counterclockwise from the airport around the north and west sides of town, while S8 runs clockwise around the east side. Each line runs at about 20-minute intervals. Depending on your exact destination in town, one line or the other may be more advantageous for you.

One thing to note is that the S1 to the airport stops in Neufahrn, where the train is "broken", the front half goes to Freising, while the back half continues to the airport. Make sure you are in the correct half. The individual cars are probably labeled "Freising" or "Flughafen".

At the Hauptbahnhof tief (deep) station, there is a center platform with trains going opposite directions. The S1 and S8, going in opposite directions, probably say Flughafen. If an S1 says "Ost Bahnhof", it's not going to the airport; if an S8 says "Herrsching", it's not going to the airport. Get on the platform and take take the next train to the airport, regardless of direction. The next train will get you to the airport sooner.

At Marienplatz, the platforms are on different levels. The S8 to the airport uses Gleis (track) 1, which is the highest level - 1st underground level). Wait for it. Nineteen out of 20 minutes, it will be the next train and it will get you to the airport faster.
