We will arrive in Munich at about 1:30 PM. We presume the best way to get to Hotel Uhland is to take the S -1 or S-8 downtown. Can anyone shed any light on how to go about this?

On Uhlandstraße 1? Yes, in that case I would take the train to the central station, München Hbf, and walk from there. Or take bus 68 the last bit if the weather is bad.

My suggestion would definitely be to use the MVgo app for public transport in Munich. If you search for Munich Airport to Uhlandstraße 1 in the app, there are several options.

We were in Munich last week. Yes...take either S-1 or S-8 to the Munich Central Station (referred to as HBF), whichever comes first. Both take about 40 minutes to reach HBF. The S-1 is on the right side of the platform, while S-8 is on the left side. You can purchase and validate your train tickets on the platform. I bought our validated tickets online (MVV website) to save some time. Once you have your tickets, just board the train. Note: press the train door button to open. The train platform is located one level down in Terminal 1.
Once you arrive at HBF, head to the station exit, Ausgang (exit) Bayerstrasse (street name), or Sudausgang (south exit). Your hotel is a 15 minute walk away. Your hotel looks really nice.
