Transportation from Munich Airport to Vilshofen

Will fly into Munich on 4/3/17 to take a river cruise from Vilshofen. We arrive at 10:15 am but the transportation from the cruise ship does not pick us up until 2:00 pm. I do not wish to hang around the airport for those many hours. Any information on other modes of transportation from the airport to the cruise port?

Thank you!

There are trains from the airport via Neufahrn and Freising to Vilshofen (2 tranfers). The trip is just over 2 hours, see www.bahn.com. A Bayern ticket for two is E. 28. I'd make a stopover in Landshut, a beautiful and typical Bavarian town.

Look it up on the Bahn website. Every hour, at 48 minutes past, there is a direct RE from Freising Bahnhof to Passau. It stops before Passau at Vilshofen and takes about an hour and a half to Vilshofen.

There is a bus from just outside Termainal 2 at MUC to Freising Bahnhof every 20 min. It takes 18 minutes. If you leave Terminal 2 at 21 minutes after the hour you'll get to Freising Bahnhof at 39 after, plenty of time to catch the train.

A 28€ Bayern-Ticket, which you can buy from the ticket automat at the airport will cover the entire trip (bus and train) for two. So will a 25€ Regio-Ticket Donau-Isar.

Great info re bus to Freising from Terminal 2 + train onto Vilshofen . It is a short stroll downhill from the station in Vilshofen over the pedestrian bridge , past the church and down to the Danube where the ships dock - there is only one docking place so hard to miss. You just need to find one of the underpass tunnels under the road that runs parallel to the river !!

I stayed in Vilshofen in 2007. I used Google Maps to get a good feeling for the place before I got there.
