My friends and I are arriving on Ryan Air from Scotland and wish to go to Munich. We arrive at the Frankfort Hahn airport. What is the best way to get to Munich?
Thanks!
Betty
Can they get from Scotland to the RyanAir airport at Memmingenberg instead? That would make it much easier to get to Munich by bus and train.
Hahn airport is deliberately misnamed, as it is far from Frankfurt. The only way to get to Frankfurt is by bus. The bus stops at the real Frankfurt airport (1H45M, 14€), from which you can take a direct ICE to Munich.
We have already booked tickets to the Hahn airport, so we now need to figure out how to get to Munich. Any help would be appreciated!
Betty
Hi, Betty. How to Look Up Train Schedules Online gives you the DB train schedule link and tips for using it. From Hahn airport, it will include a bus departing the airport either to Frankfurt main station (1h45) or a shorter bus to a closer town, depending on departure time.
With all due respect, WHY did they book a flight from Scotland to Hahn without knowing where Hahn was or how you would get from there to Munich?
A warning to everyone, RyanAir may have low fares, but their airports are often in isolated locations, not accessible by rail. Sometimes the name of the airports masks the inaccessibility (ie, Frankfurt Hahn, Paris Beauvais, Munich West, Düsseldorf Weeze, Milan Bergamo). Make sure you know where they are and what the connection options are.
betty,
There are several solutions for travelling that route, but the option I'd probably use under the circumstances is airport Bus from Hahn to Frankfurt Hbf (~1H:45M) and then direct ICE train to Munich (3H:22M). That will likely be a somewhat expensive trip, which will offset the seemingly cheap RyanAir prices.
For future reference, you could also have considered EasyJet from Edinburgh to Munich (one flight per day, departing EDI at 18:05, arriving MUC at 21:20. There may be other carriers operating on that route, but I didn't check.
If you look at the Hahn website, at http://www.hahn-airport.de/default.aspx?menu=by_bus&cc=en#, you can see that there are also buses to Mannheim, which also has direct trains to Munich and is a more direct route than going via Frankfurt.
Hi,
If you are landing at Hahn, is there a bus or taxi from there to Memmingen? If so, you're in luck. From Memmingen are trains to Ulm, where you can transfer to Munich, or take direct trains to Munich, without having to change in Ulm. I was in Memmingen once, ages ago to change buses. Yes, that famous historical path....Memmingen and Ulm.
Hmmm. Memmingen is a long way from Hahn. I'd say about 300 km as the crow flies. Take the bus to FRA or Mannheim as previously discussed.
Good to know. I stand corrected.
