Transportation from Deggendorf to Munich and hotel in Munich

Hi,
We will be doing the cruise only portion of a Danube cruse and will disembark in Deggendorf one morning and fly out of Munich the next day. I am looking for suggestions on transportation to get to Munich and where to stay for one night in Munich that will allow us to sightsee around the central city and get to airport fairly easily the next morning...

Thanks in advance!

Take a regional train from Deggendorf to Plattling (9 min), change in Plattling to another regional train (about 1½ hr) to Munich. The change in Plattling is an 8 min, one platform change, which should not be a problem unless you are weighed down by luggage from your cruise. The trip should take less than 2 hours.

A Bayern-Ticket for 2, for 31 euro, will cover the entire trip as well as any local transportation once you get to Munich.

I would stay in Munich near the town center, Marienplatz. Here is a pension just a few blocks from Marienplatz. Alternatively, you could stop in Freising on the way to Munich and check into a hotel there. Then continue on to Munich, spend time sightseeing and return to Freising for the night, all on the Bayern-Ticket. The next morning, it's a 20 minute, 2,80€/person bus ride from the Freising Bhf to the airport. Here is a place to stay in Freising.

Wow! What great information!!! Y'all are an awesome resource! Thank you so much!

Is Freising somewhere thats is simply convenient or a fun place to be in it's own right?

Thanks!

I guess it kinda depends on what you like. Freising is home to Weihenstephan, the world's oldest brewery. You can take the tour or just sit in the shade in the outdoor Biergarten enjoying German food and bier.

But the main thing is that the train from Plattling stops there on the way to Munich and you can get from there to downtown Munich and back on the S-Bahn, and it is close to the airport for the next morning.

This Tripadvisor page lists some other things to do.

Freising is a good choice. The bus (just a simple city bus) is line 635 and runs from the railway station every 20 minutes from around 4Am until midnight every day. It has many stops within the airport complex but the final three are Terminal 1 (sectors A+B), MAC/Terminal 1 (sectors C,D,E) then Terminal 2. Make sure you know which terminal you need, it's a long walk between them! The bus ride would be around 20-25 minutes outside of rush hour, most of it spent within the airport complex! Fare is €2,80 each

An idea for you. If you had the BayernTicket (don't forget to write passenger names in the blank boxes) you could travel down to Freising and drop your bags, then go into the city as already suggested. Later on instead of going straight back to Freising go to the airport on train lines S1 or S8 and check out where to be next day, then get the 635 bus to Freising - the BayernTicket would be valid until the end of the day and includes the bus. So next morning when you are dragging luggage you'll know exactly where to go!
