planning to stay at Hotel Europa. I was led to believe that trams to Strassbourg are inexpensive transit . anyone been there, done that?
SWE (Südwestdeutsche Landesverkehrs-AG) runs a train from Kehl to Strasbourg, 10 minutes for 4,30€. Find the schedule on the German Rail website.
Hint: It helps if you spell it "Strasbourg".
The tram runs every 14 minutes weekdays, takes 24 minutes to get to Strasbourg main station for example, and costs 1.70 EUR for a purchased paper ticket, or 2 EUR paid on board. Its about a 1800 ft walk from Hotel Europa to Kehl Bahnhof where the tram terminates.
I think I stayed at the Europa about 17 years ago. The tram was not built yet at that time.
The tram leaves from outside Kehl station, and goes to Strasbourg centre. The tram will be more frequent than the train, and takes you to the city centre.
If you take the train, Strasbourg station is some distance from the city centre. Depending on where your hotel is, you may still need to get a tram from Strasbourg station to your hotel.
