Trains, busses and subways

Four of us will be arriving at the Munich airport on Monday. I am having some anxiety regarding transportation. This will be my first time being dependent on transportation; however, I am intimidated by the different information on the internet. Do I need to purchase train tickets in advance? Should I buy the Bayern card? Is the train station in English? We are planning a 2-day trip to Fussen, a 2-day trip to Salzburg from Fussen, and a day trip to Regensburg. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

You do not need advance-purchase train tickets.

You do not need railpasses (or help from Rick Steves pages for buying them.)

As you can see in these videos, you will find signage and ticket machines in English:

The Bayern "Ticket" - not card - is a day pass you can purchase at ticket machines for the legs of travel you mentioned...

Munich > Füssen
Füssen > Salzburg
Munich > Regensburg > Munich

For MUC airport > Munich and for transport within Munich, the MVV tickets will be available:

i was in munich in june for 4 days. did day trips to regansburg, augsberg, and nuremberg. all via train. used the u/s bahn to go to the airport as well. just download the db and mvgo apps to buy tickets. you can try the obb app for the austrian rail system. all the apps have english language option. station are well marked as to directions, platforms, types of service, etc.

You don't need different apps. The DB app sells you every ticket you need, e.g. also for MVV. Simply search for a connection and then take a look at the range of tickets on offer; for a connection from the airport to the main station, for example, you'll find every MVV ticket from one-way tickets to group day passes.

When last in Germany, we too had questions about rail. The DB info booth (there is a good one in Munich) has very helpful people who speak English or German. They will tell you your best options.
