Trains/buses at Frankfurt airport and Eurail app question

I will be landing in Frankfurt at the end of the month and need to take train to Boppard. About 2 months ago, I had saved a bunch of train trips on the Eurail Rail Planner app so that I could easily add them to our passes as we travel. However, yesterday I was looking for possible later trains from Frankfurt Airport to Boppard, and I found that the one I saved did not come up on the search, nor on the DB app. In fact, almost all the connections now involve a bus and then transfer to train, something that wasn't showing two months ago. But the original journey I saved under My Trip on the Rail Planner app still appears.
So two questions:
1. Based on the above, it appears that the Eurail Rail Planner does not update any changes to trips that were previously saved. Is that correct? If so, I will have to double-check them all.

  1. Can anyone provide me logistics of finding the Rail busses once I've cleared passport control at the airport? I'm arriving American Airlines, which, according to Google, is Terminal 3. I read that we need to transfer to Terminal 1 to get to trains, but I'm not sure the best way to change terminals and how to find the buses that are being used as train replacement. Any specific details will be helpful.

Thank you.

I need your travel DATE and scheduled ARRIVAL TIME to access the schedule.

Don't use the Eurail Trip Planner.

Use the Deutsche Bahn website or app. They operate the train and will have the best information.

Russ, we arrive 8/31 at 8:45 am. Originally I saved an 11:24 train with no change of train, and those were available every 2 hours, but I don’t see those anymore.

If it is your plan to use a railpass day for the journey to Boppard, and you aren't in a huge rush to reach Boppard, you can avoid the buses altogether with a detour.

The railway problems that might be impacting your arrival day PROBABLY lie between the airport and the Rhine River town of Mainz, one of the stops on the direct route to Boppard. So with some extra time, you could do what I would probably do in this case...

No idea yet what time you plan to reach FRA, but probably morning... I'd board one of the 19 morning ICE trains leaving FRA for COLOGNE between 7 am and 12 noon. This trip takes 1 hour. I might break here to see the Cologne Cathedral (Germany's most visited landmark) or to have a meal at the station. Cologne station has baggage storage. Then catch a regional train to Boppard whenever you are ready. The direct regional trains to Boppard take 1.75 hours, and there is no railway construction going on on this route AFAIK. With your date/travel time, we could be more certain.

10:11, 10:22, 10:26, 10:48, 10:50, 11:10 departures for Cologne on 8/31. You'd probably make one of those.
Direct RB trains from Cologne > Boppard depart at :56 after every hour.

Yes, it's construction on the stretch between FRA and Mainz that is the problem.

Russ, we actually will be spending a couple of nights in Cologne after Boppard to visit Cologne and Aachen. Our plane is scheduled to land at 8:45, but I have no idea, of course, if it will be on time, nor how long it will take us to go through the entry system. I imagine we will want to take the shortest transit to Boppard. If that involves one of the bus replacements, I just don't know where we would find those.

General replacement bus service info:

I'm pretty sure all buses will be leaving from the Busbahnhof (bus station) at "The Squaire" - which is not far from the Fernbahnhof and Regionalbahnhof rail stations... see the map below and look for the bus symbol just above it. There should be signage that directs you there in Terminal 1.

My experience with replacement bus service has been BAD, but since you're leaving from FRA, I imagine there's a better chance that buses will actually be available, on time, and findable.

Thank you for the detailed information- very helpful! And I will keep in mind the travel through Cologne in case we don’t want to deal with the buses.

One last thing about the Eurail pass app: It is not necessary to have your exact schedule added to the trip. All you need to do is add something that triggers the activation of a travel day, and you are set.

The QR code that is generated does not contain train information. Your Eurail pass is a free travel pass, good for a day on any train covered by the pass. You are not generating tickets for specific trains.

Yes, you will need to take the SkyTrain from Terminal 3 to Terminal 1.

Every 2 hours the RE2 will leave from the airport regional station (track 3) and go to Boppard. At least that is what it says on www.rmv.de
Otherwise, you will need to go to the long distance station. Do use www.deutschebahn.de to find more connections.
