Hi! We are finalizing how we can spend our short time in Germany. We will be traveling from Amsterdam to Cologne. Taking in Cologne for the remainder of that first day, then wanting to go to Bruhl to visit castle. Can someone help clarify if taking the train to Bruhl is best option and help me make sure I'm on the right track :). Does the spelling change to "Brohl" when looking at train tickets and is it truly 1 hour 20 minutes from Cologne to Bruhl? I've read it is super close---so when I'm looking at train tickets I'm confused. We will have to head back to Cologne and Amsterdam late that second day. Thank you---I am a first time Europe traveler
Bruhl has a "u" with an umlaut, 2 little dots above the "u", making it a separate vowel in the German language. The standard convention that will work with the DB journey planner is to add an "e" after the "u". Thus enter "Bruehl" and you will see "Brühl" pop up. Click on that as a destination and see the trains. During the day, there are 3 trains every hour to Brühl from Cologne main station, and it takes 12 to 16 minutes.
Brühl train station is right in front of the entrance to Schlösser Brühl. I believe that is the castle you are referring to, a palace really.

Thank you so much! I kept digging and just discovered the key was the "e" addition---I appreciate you also alerting me to this. It was a detail I had not picked up on. I have located the train schedule and am delighted Bruehl is indeed so close to Koeln. We think it will be a good use of our limited time to visit.
