Train transfers from Fussen to Lucerne

Hi, it's our first time traveling to Europe. We are excited about taking the trains. We are taking the train from Fussen, Germany to Lucerne, Switzerland which has 2 transfers that I am anxious about. The first is at the Buchloe station. I have been trying to research my step-by-step transfer from one train to the other since we have 5 mins. to do so. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Train transfers are are normal and expected feature of train travel. And they are easy.

The DB website will tell you in advance what platforms the trains will arrive and leave from. In your case it is apparently from platform 2 platform 4.

So the steps will be: Get of train. Go to the underpass. Walk over to platform 4. Get on train. Should take about 2 minutes.
And if a delay makes you miss a train you just take the next one. You have a ticket for the route from Füssen to Luzern, not for a particular train.

Thank you. This is exactly what I was hoping for. Truly appreciate it!

If I buy a super saver ticket from Fussen to Luzern does it allow me to use any train on my trip if I miss one? Should we purchase in advance? I have been researching but it can be hard to understand when you are a first-time traveler.

Also wondering if anyone knows the best path to get from platform 32 to platform 8 in Zurich HB which is the other station we have a transfer?

Much appreciated!

Platform 32 is underground at Zurich HB. You go up one escalator, the walk to the escalator marked for Platform 8 and go up that one and, voila, you are standing on Platform 8. It happens to be virtually directly above Platform 32.

A super saver ticket is train specific for the EC train from Munich to Zurich, which stops at Buchloe. You are free to take an earlier train from Fuessen as it is a regional train. However that will probably result in a very long wait at Buchloe. If your train from Fuessen is late, causing you to miss your connection, then you are free to take later trains. You are free to take any train from Zurich to Luzern.

The EC train goes every 2 hours. Trains in between will require several connections to get to Zurich.

You do not need to buy this ticket in advance, but doing so will save you money. It can save you quite a considerable amount even. And yes, even with a discounted ticket (Supersparpreis Europa in this case) you can of course take the next train if you miss your connection due to a delay. Tickets are for a route, not a train. Discounted tickets of course come with conditions, but if the railways do something that makes it impossible for you to comply with these conditions then these are removed.
