Train to innsbruck

We have a German Rail Pass and are wondering if this will cover train travel from Munich to Innsbruck.

The German Rail Pass page at the DB site offers details on GRP usage. It promises, among other things, "Usage of the DB/Austrian railways EuroCity trains to Kufstein, Innsbruck..."
You can access that page HERE to discover more details.

Yes, if you take a direct (no connections) EuroCity train, which is operated German Railway (DB).

There are six of those ECs a day, every two hours, starting at 7:38 until 17:38, so you shouldn't have to wait long.

If you want to leave earlier, you can always use your rail pass for a regional train (RB or Meridian) to Kufstein and buy an Austrian ticket from there to Innsbruck for about 17€ (18€ if you buy the ticket from the Bahn in Munich).

Alternatively, you can use you rail pass to Mittenwald, then buy a ticket from Mittenwald to Innsbruck for about 10€. Although this route takes about an hour longer, it is much more scenic. If you are not in too much of a hurry, Mittenwald and Seefeld would be nice places to stop for an hour.

Do we need to make seat reservations on an EC from Munich to Innsbruck if we need to make sure we are on a certain train or only in rush hour? Haven't traveled there before. Thanks.

How do you feel about standing for an hours and 45 minutes?

No, it's unlikely to happen, but for a 4,50€/pers reservation fee, you can assure that it won't.

I think that in 15 years of travel in Germany, I have been on exactly one express train (ICE/IC/EC) where there weren't seats available.
