I plan to purchase train tickets from Karlsruhe to Paris. One option is the superspareis. Does that ticket automatically reserve a seat...ie first come first serve. or must you also secure a reservation for that seat??? thanks

Symbols on the fare you are investigating should indicate with a checkmark if a seat reservation is included.

If it is on a TGV, I think literally all TGV ticket include a seat reservation.
If you are using the Bahn website and the connection shows a person in a seat, it includes a seat reservation. A see that symbol for both TGVs and ICEs.
