Bought a train ticket Munich to Vienna on the DB app. Upgraded to first class because it wasn’t much more and 4 of us traveling together. I don’t see a seat reservation, how do I, or can I, get seats reserved after the fact? Don’t see option.

If 1th class was “not much more”, you must have bought an economy ticket? In this case, seat reservation has not been included for some time. Look up your connection in the app and click on “Seat reservation only” under “Book”. You can also do this with ÖBB, it's a bit cheaper there.

Welcome to the new DB fare world. Please compare the current prices for Supersaver - Saver fare - and flex price three months out:
2nd class: 49 - 55 - 109
1st class: 64 - 71 - 206
Since December 2023, seat reservation is only included in the most expensive category.

I did not see option to pick seat before checkout, so I missed that. I also do not see option to do a seat reservation under any tab in app, including opening my ticket and in the book tab. It is for late November. Do you think we’ll find 4 seats together without reservations?

- look up your connection in the app (i.e. do a fake booking)
- press the select offer button at the bottom of the screen.
- on the next screen (displaying the different tickets) scroll all the way down to seat reservation (without ticket)

BTW, 1st class seat reservations are 6.50 EUR each.

On the DB app you can choose “seat reservation only” from the drop menu on the upper left.
ÖBB is usually better for seat reservations, because it will sometimes let you actually choose seats where DB will assign them randomly.
But the ÖBB app seems kaput at the moment, so you may have to go through the ÖBB website. That’s always fun.

Very helpful. Thank you! I’m new to the DB app so I find the seat selection but is it the same price for both classes? From booking it says 2nd class reserved, unable to assign but I can buy. Under the left drop down it has same price for seats, but no class specified. Just get that?

Regrettably no. In your "fake booking" mentionedabove, you have to select 1th class to get the correct reservations.
