Train ticket info needed

Hi! We (me and my two teenagers) are traveling to Germany in 6 weeks. and I have already asked a couple of questions about logistics. Thanks to everyone for all the help so far, and I hope you will help with one more question. I finally bought our train tickets from Augsburg to Amsterdam, and I have the DB app, so the tickets are there waiting for use. The other two short journeys we have to take are:

  1. Traveling from the Munich airport to Ostbahnhof station late in the day (upon arrival in Germany). I know we need to take the S8, and there was a one day airport-city group ticket somebody recommended, and I'm wondering if I can purchase it ahead of time so it's on my phone. Do I do this on the DB site or with the Munich app? Will I need to specify a day and time? I really prefer having all my tickets on my phone and ready to go. Also, is that ticket valid for 24 hours or only until midnight, because I'm guessing we will be tired and not likely to use transportation until the next morning. If that's the case, is it still the best option? Finally, if I get the tickets on the Munich app, how do I validate them?

  2. Two days later we will go from Ostbahnhof to Augsburg. Is it best to get a Bayern ticket? Are there multiple day Bayern tickets that would cover both the airport trip and the trip to Augsburg? Also, since the journey is short, I am guessing it's not worth buying first class right?

Thanks in advance for your help!!

1) These are local tickets. Just get single trip tickets from the ticket machine when you get there. No discounts for advance purchase.

2) A Bayern ticket is a one-day ticket, you cannot spread it across multiple days.
Info here: https://www.bahn.com/en/view/offers/regional/regional-day-ticket-for-bavaria.shtml
As you see it gets very advantageous for many people. Your teenagers probably count as adults, but as it is just €7 per additional adult, that is a bargain.

Thank you Chris! With the first point, are you saying that it's cheaper to just get three single destination metro tickets once we arrive rather than the one day airport-city group ticket?

An Entire Network group day ticket will be 24.30 EUR. Since a single ticket is 11.60 EUR, the group day ticket is the way to go. Plus you can use it for the rest of the day to travel together throughout Munich.

Use a Bayern ticket for the trip to Augsburg, 39 EUR, plus have public transportation for the rest of the day. Or you could save 2 EUR and buy a Regio-Ticket Allgau Schwaben, but no additional public transport included.

Buy these tickets out of a ticket machine to save the 2 EUR ticket window service fee. And write your names in ink on the back of the tickets.

Hi Sam,

Thanks for the help!

I agree the group ticket makes much more sense. I know you said I could buy it there, but is it possible to buy it now via my phone? Or do I have to wait? The fewer extra things I have to do when we arrive, the better. The Bayern ticket I was able to buy on my phone, by the way. Did it after receiving the info from you and Chris.

Thanks for the link, Sam! I figured out how to do it but you can only purchase a month in advance, so I'll be able to purchase in about a week. Thanks for your help!!!
