On the DB website (https://int.bahn.de), the Florence–Bologna–Munich–Frankfurt route can be booked with a seat reservation for the FR–RJ–ICE train sequence, e.g., for the 8:55 and 9:55 departures. On the SBB website (sbb.ch), connections via Zurich or Basel can be booked.

Thanks for the ideas, I'm using the Deutsche Bahn website and the app and have had zero success with both.

I just tested the website. There you do not fill in your date of birth, but use a date picker where you pick it from a calendar.

Thank you, We tried that as well but the website still did not accept the birthdate!!
I'm checking the Swiss train website now, however, when I go to pay I get a message that says, This transaction cannot be completed!!

When all else fails, you can try Trainline. They do have a 3% commission. Pay attention to the date, as their computer may adjust it per the time difference between where you search from and the time in Florence.

in most of the non North American world the day goes first and then the month; instead of slashes try dots.
