Is it worth buying train tickets in advance from Frankfurt Airport to Wurzburg, Wurzburg to Stuttgart, Stuttgart to Strausbourg , Strausbourg to Trier and Trier to Frankfurt. Using the train to get between my base cities and the first and last one are shortrides

Yes. Saver Fares save a lot over walk-up fares for these journeys. But be aware that the are non-refundable and train-specific... You can't miss your pre-scheduled departures.
A 5-day German Railpass for these journeys would be mostly refundable if you couldn't do the trip - and would offer travel day and departure time flexibility as well as some savings over walk-up tix. An additional discount of 15% off the normal pass price is possible if purchased this month. Details:

Be careful when booking that the city is spelled Strasbourg (only one u) in French or Strassburg in German. There is a place called Strausberg in the outskirts of Berlin that people occasionally buy rail tickets to by accident.

Go to DB and look at the cost of the trains tomorrow. Then check the cost of the trains on a date about 3 weeks out. If its cheaper three weeks out then ..... if not, then ....
