Flying in to Munich then taking the bus 635 to Freising for 2 days then what would be the Train from Freising to Berchtesgarden ? Then We will travel from Berchtesgarden to Mittenwald, do you have to go through Munich for this trip ?, then back to Munich for a few days before we leave.

Thanks so Much

Just use the Deutche Bahn website. Plug in your start and destination and travel dates. The website will show your train options.

https://int.bahn.de/en

PS, it's spelled Berchtesgaden. No second r.

Look at the top right of the page. There should be a drop down for preferred language

You don't have to go through Munich to get from Berchtesgaden to Mittenwald, but that's the easiest way, and about the only way exclusively by rail.

If you wanted to avoid Munich, you could probably piece together some short regional train connections and one or two bus connections through the Bayerisches Oberland, but you'd have multiple changes and it would probably take longer.

Or you could go into Salzburg, then around Berchtesgaden to the SE through Bischofshofen to Innsbruck and up through Seefeld to Mittenwald, but that would probably be longer too.

No, just bite the bullet and go the easiest way with one change of trains in Munich.

Pretty much an all-day trip via Bischofshofen.

DB Site shows that Berchtesgaden > (stopover Salzburg) > (stopover Innsbruck) > Mittenwald bypasses Munich and is possible in 5 hours' travel time; journeys are possible throughout the day... not sure what that would cost, however. This could be a good option for a Eurailpass holder looking to spend 5-6 hours in Salzburg on the way. Leaving B'gaden at 8:30, you'd reach Mittenwald by 19:35 if you specify 6 hours stopover time.

In 2013 I was showing my new partner Bavaria.

We went from Oberammergau to Garmisch-Partenkirchen to Bad Tölz by bus (3) along Walchensee through Kochel, then by train (2) to Bayerischzell for the night. The next morning we went by bus (1) via Tatzelwurm to Oberaudorf, then by trains (2) via Rosenheim to Burnau am Chiemsee, buses (3) via Reit im Winkel to Bad Reichenhall, then train to Berchtesgaden.

Two days, seven buses, five trains, but we avoided Munich. Spent a lot of time on the Alpenstrasse.

Other than one of the Austrian routes through Innsbruck, or through Munich, or going around Munich to the north, it's not feasible to go from Berchtesgaden to Mittenwald entirely by rail. Rail lines in southern Bavaria radiate out from Munich with few cross links. For instance, there is no rail link between the branch going to Garmisch-Partenkirchen and the branch including Bad Tölz/Holzkirchen. But the bus from Garmisch-Partenkirchen to Bad Tölz is a very scenic route along the shores of Walchensee and down the switchbacks to Kochelsee.

you can translate almost any website using your computer or iPhone browser. There's a little symbol at either the right or left of the website address.
