Train Help

Hello Everyone,

I am having a difficult time understanding the trains in Berlin. We are landing at Berlin Tegel, and we are staying near the Moritzplatz U Bahn Station, there does not seem to be any direct way there, can anyone suggest how to do this?

Also, for when we leave for Dresden and Prague, what train station should we use? Can I get to a major train station like Alexanderplatz from Moritzplatz?

There seems to be S Bahn and U Bahn, but I don't understand how they are connected.

TXL bus to Hauptbahnhof, then S-Bahn or RE train to Alexanderplatz, then U8 to Moritzplatz.
I'd reverse it to Hauptbahnhof on your departure.
Edit--The TXL bus will leave you at the Hauptbahnhof and the S-Bahn will go from the top floor as it is an elevated line. At Alexanderplatz go down two floors to the underground U-Bahn station.

When it comes to train travel, I always direct people to the web site called "The Man in Seat 61". Mark Smith has an enormous amount of information, and you can search country by country. We found his advice invaluable for recent trips to Spain and Scandinavia. Have a great trip!

A way with just one transfer would be to take the 128 bus to Osloer Strasse where you can get the U8 to Moritzplatz. Use the route planner: http://www.vbb.de/en/article/timetables/routing/routing/7593.html

Also when departing, you can use www.bahn.com site and input Berlin Moritzplatz as your start station and it will give you the route by U-Bahn or bus to the nearest station to catch your train. It will show "partial fare" as it does not include the local transport from Moritzplatz to the station.

If you have a smart phone, then google maps is an easy way to get around. I put your orgin & destination points in & it returned three options:

TXL to 142 bus to U8 (34 minutes) or

X9 bus to U2 to M29 bus (41 minutes) or

128 bus to U8 (41 minutes).

As an added bonus, you can track your location as you travel, though probably not underground.
Also, when you buy your ticket, you have to validate it by inserting it in a box that puts a time/place stamp on it. If you buy the right ticket, it should be good for the whole journey.

Trains to Dresden and Prague don't stop at Alexanderplatz - their main stop in central Berlin is the Hauptbahnhof. If you're staying near Moritzplatz U-Bahn station, the best route is to take the U-Bahn to Alexanderplatz and the S-Bahn to the Hauptbahnhof. One normal Berlin single-journey ticket will take you all the way, as they are valid on both.

Hi,

When you are at Berlin Hbf, take the S-Bahn with the terminus in the east, such as Wartenberg, Ahrensfelde, Strausberg, or Eckner. More than S-Bahn line stops at Alexanderplatz, which is a big junction point.
