We want to take the train from Rothenberg to Nuremberg, spend 4 or 5 hours seeing Nuremberg, then end up in Dresden. What is my cheapest option? I'm confused about the saver and super saver options, if they even apply to this situation.
Thanks!
At the DB itinerary page, use Rothenburg ob der Tauber as your "from" station, Dresden as your "to" station. Also, insert Nuremberg as a stopover - for however many hours you wish to spend there.

To add the stopover, just click on "add intermediate stops" to enter NUREMBERG in the "via 1" box and then your stopover time.
You should find some saver and/or super saver fares if you do this.
Just pick the ticket with the cheapest price departing around the time you want to go. ; these are non-refundable and good for only the time you choose to travel.
If you want a ticket that is exchangeable or refundable those are usually more expensive.
Depending on the time you want to go from Nuremburg to Rothenburg, some trains serving that route are regional trains so the price is set.
that route requires a transfer to another train.
One way is to buy a Quer durchs Land Ticket. Assuming 2 people, that will be 52 EUR. If you leave after 9 am from Rothenburg, and stick to regional trains, that will cover you for the day. If it is a weekend, you can leave anytime. When you leave Nuremberg, you take a regional train to Hof, then change to a regional train to Dresden. This way takes about 50 minutes longer than using fast trains, but saves big money. This combination of regional trains departs at 37 past the hour until 17:37, getting to Dresden in 4 hours and 25 minutes. There is also a 2 change combo at 18:37 that take a bit longer. So you can just leave for Dresden when you decide it is time.
In Nuremberg, you can buy a local day ticket to get around the city.
