I am looking at the train from munich to vienna with a change at Saklzburg as its much cheaper. The time between connection at Salzburg is 9mins which is not a lot of time at all. Is this feasible as I imagine the trains would virtually have to be on the same platform???
What website are you using?
As I'm from tge UK it's easier for me to use Trainline. I have found the German/Austrian sites more expensive and difficult to use. Also it seems to be getting much more expensive the longer I leave it so would like to get this sorted soon.
Any help is much appreciated.
What day are you traveling?
I see from your other post that your travel day is July 22. The cheap fares on the direct train are long gone, so I understand why you need to change in Salzburg. 9 minutes is plenty of time. You also might want to consider Meridian trains from Munich to Salzburg and Westbahn trains from Salzburg Vienna.
I have found the German/Austrian sites more expensive
That's is certainly not correct because Trainline and loco2 are resellers of DB and ÖBB and must not undercut their prices if they do not want to lose access to their booking system.
The cheapest connections for July 22 given by the DB booking site are (prices as of today)
14:11 €29.90 S + EC + RJX: transfers at Munich East and Salzburg
15:30 €39.90 RJX: direct
17:30 €29.90 RJX: direct
BTW, a 9 min transfer in Salzburg is easy. And even if your incoming train is late, you can always take the next one (exception: Westbahn trains), since DB train bindings are meaningless once your train has crossed the border into Austria.
