Hello! My husband and I will be travelling to Germany this week Tuesday, and I’m so excited. I’ve been planning this trip for several years. I’ve read through many of the posts on this forum and found great tips. However, one thing I can’t seem to figure out is the best way of getting to Nuremberg from the Munich airport. There are no direct trains. What’s best…train or bus? Additionally, we’re spending 4 days in Nuremberg (with day trips planned) and 4 days in Munich (1 day trip planned to Neuschwanstein Castle). Is Zugspitze worth the effort or should I go to Salzburg instead?
There are no direct buses, either. I would download the DB Navigator app for the various options.
I love Salzburg, so that would be my choice.
No big thing to go from airport to central train station in Munich with S-Bahn.
Then you ll have direct train connection to Nürnberg.1hr
and another vote I would go to Salzburg

There are direct buses from MUC to Nuremberg. They are operated by Lufthanss however, and can only be booked by airline passengers.
Is Zugspitze worth the effort or should I go to Salzburg instead?
The Zugspitze is only worthwhile in good weather, and the prospects for next week are rather modest (except Wednesday; see https://www.br.de/wettervorhersage/wetterprognose/82475/Zugspitze).
I'm very happy for you that your trip is coming to fruition. I agree with sla019.
I'm a fan of Salzburg. My Christmas market trip is Dec 5 - 12 and includes Salzburg -- my second visit to its Christmas markets.
Depending on the time you land and get through immigration, your fastest way with the Bayern Ticket could be a train direct to Regensburg from the airport, then change to a train to Nuremberg. See you options at https://int.bahn.de/en and click on the "local transport only" button.
Thank you, all for you recommendations. Since there are no direct train from Munich airport to Nuremberg, we are taking the Lufthansa bus to Munich central station, then a train to Nuremberg. And I've decided on Salzburg. I'm so excited and looking forward to this trip!
