traveling in November -tips for train travel to Salzburg Austria from Munich airport please
Take the S-Bahn to Munich Ostbahnhof, then change to the Meridian train to Salzburg. Use a Bayern Ticket (after 9am weekdays). 25 EUR 1st person, 6 EUR each additional person up to 5 traveling together.
Adding to what Sam said, the S8 runs every 20 mins from the Airport and the train to Salzburg is every hour from Ostbahnhof so there is no need to purchase tickets ahead of time. There are also no seat reservations to worry about either.

I'll put in a plug for the Deutsche Bahn app. I use it to search schedules and to buy/store tickets, including Länder tickets like the Bayern ticket. Once tickets are purchased, no internet connection is needed to retrieve them, and it's easy to pull them up to show the ticket person on the train.
Just make sure the car you get into at Munich goes to Salzburg, I took the 8am from Munich to Salzburg and come to find out half of the train splits at one of the stops and goes in another direction. I had to change cars, resulting in not getting on board in the correct train on time. I along with a few others had to wait for the next train about 45 minutes later. Lesson Learned.
It is always a good idea to make sure your coach is going to the destination you want. Trains do split with the two sections going to different destinations.
However, in the case of Meridian trains to Salzburg, I don't think that is a problem today. I don't see any Meridian train (or any other train, for that matter) to Salzburg splitting anywhere. The most likely place would be Rosenheim, with the other part going on to Kufstein, Austria, which is on the way to Innsbruck, but that currently doesn't happen. There are two Meridian trains from Munich Hbf, which leave Ost within about 13 minutes of each other, one going to Salzburg and the other going to Kufstein. They both go through Rosenheim about 5 minutes apart. It's entirely possible that at an earlier time this was a single from train Munich that split in Rosenheim.
There are some other trains from Munich that do split. If you are going to be taking one of these, it would be nice to know in advance that the train will be splitting, so you can make sure to pay attention to the signs in the window, and you get on a car going to your destination. The mustard colored departure board at the station probably has that information, but you want to know before you get to the station. Let's say you are going from Munich Hbf to Bremen Hbf on the 11:20 train, ICE 538, on the 30th of October. Go to this website and put in Munich (the site will change it to München), the date (in this case 30.10.18) and the time (10:20). Make sure "departure" is selected, and that ICE is checked under "means of transport". Clicking on search will take you to the departure board for Munich at 11:20. You can see that there are two ICEs shown leaving Munich at the same time, 11:20. They are both leaving from the same platform, 20, a dead giveaway that it is one train that will split somewhere. You want to be in a car going to Bremen.
Where does the split occur. If you look at the list of stops for each ICE, you'll see that the last common stop
is at Hannover at 15:32. So, the ICE from Munich runs as one train until it get to Hannover at 3:32pm, then splits with some coaches going to Bremen, others to Hamburg-Altona.
