Train from Munich airport to central Muich, specific station help

We land in Munich on a Saturday next month to join a tour group. However, looking at flightAware, our Delta Flight 130 is sometimes several hours late leaving Atlanta, so we may need to get to our hotel by public transport.

Need to ultimately get to the area of the Harras transit station just south of the main station.
So, can someone clarify or validate my plans (I dont speak any German, so I want to have a plan)

Option 1 seems to be to take the S1 from the airport to Munchen Hbf (Central station) and then take a taxi from there.

Option 2 is to take S1 to Munchen DonnersbergerBrucke, 1 stop short of the main station, and then xfer to S7 headed south 2 stops to the Harras stop. Can someone clarify logistice at the DonnersbergerBrucke station. It looks like just 2 adjacent tracks and a ramp to get over? Is it a ramp, steps, or elevator. Also at Harras station, we need to get down to the cross street below. Google shows what looks like a station entry that comes out under the overpass. Can someone verify.

I know its detailed info, but a bit nervous since we have never been there.

Thx from Nashville

Make life a little easier on yourself. Do option 1. Take S1 to central station and then have a taxi deposit you on the doorstep of your hotel. I would go so far as to suggest that if your flight is very late and you are feeling completely frazzled, you could take a cab directly from the airport. I often have two plans on arrival. One for feeling great and ready to accept the challenge of public transit and the other if feeling like all I want to do is get to the hotel (taxi).

First off, if you have not looked, the Munich Transport website has a journey planner, and
that is probably the best place to start.

Munich has two S-Bahn lines that access the airport. S1 more or less goes counterclockwise
and S8 goes clockwise. If you punch "Airport to Harras" into the journey planner, it routes
you via S8 as it is shorter, but in the end it's probably not a huge difference - take whichever
S-Bahn at the airport comes first. The S8 transfer point is at Rosenheimer Platz and it appears
to be a 1 minute walk, so probably the same platform, or across the platform.

While Donnersbergerbrucke looks huge on the map, there are only two passenger platforms
as you note. If you end up there and need to transfer, check the monitors to see which platform
to go to. Yes, there is a ramp (more likely a stairway, and hopefully an elevator) if you need to
go to the other platform.

The S-Bahn trains will be labelled so you know which line the train is running.

As for accessing the street from the Harras stop, yes, it does look like the portal is on the street
level underneath the railroad bridge (note that if you somehow end up on the U-Bahn, that station
is down the street a bit and the line is underground). Someone else is going to get off and exit the
station. Just follow them if it isn't obvious. The German word for exit is "ausgang".

This is the track plan for the Donnersberger Brücke station. There are 2 platforms with four tracks in the station. If you come in on the S1, you'll arrive on the south platform and have to cross over via a bridge to the north platforms where the S7 goes to Harras.

You could come in from the airport on the S8. Then I would suggest changing at the Hbf. There is only one platform with two tracks on either side going opposite direction, and your change will be with the same side, same track.

I see the MVV shows the recommended connection being taking the S8 from the airport and changing to the S7 at Rosenheimerplatz. At Rosenheimerplatz, there is a single platform with tracks on both sides. The S8 from the airport to the S7 to Harras is a simple same track change on just on side of the platform.

Actually, there are several stations (Hbf, Karlstor, Isartor, and Rosenheimerplatz) like that under Munich between Rosenheimerplatz and the Hbf. And Marienplatz has two separate stations going opposite directions with just one track at each level. At all of the stations except Marienplatz, it will be a simple change. Get off the S8 and stand on that side of the platform until the S7 comes in about 9 minutes.

Thx for this info. When buying a 1 way sbahn pass for airport to central Munich, is it for a specific line (S1 VS S8), or is it any option to get there?

There are a variety of ticket options for Munich. See:

Munich Bahn tickets

You do not say how many of you there are, but the AirportPLUS ticket is good either for
a single person for one price, or a group of up to 5 people for another price, and you
can use it for the rest of the day after you come in from the airport around all of Munich
as well.

Delta comes into Terminal 1 in Munich Airport, and in between T1 and T2 is the Munich
Airport Center (public area, outside security), which has restaurants, stores, ticket
machines for the trains/subways, and a staffed help desk.

It's for any option within the MVV network (SBahn, UBahn, Trams, buses) and not a specific train or line. So if a tram or bus gets you even closer feel free to use it!

Just to close this up, a final question on taxis from the main munich train station. Looks like there is a circular taxi stand just on the south side of the terminal. Is this organized in some way or just go out and grab one. Do they tend to upcharge in various ways, not use CC, or is it pretty on level?
Thx for the help, leaving next Fri Germany, Austria, Paris...

I can't answer specifically about taxis but I can say having driven in that area just tonight the roads have not improved in the last few months. That building project in and around the main station is something else. I suggest that when you get in the taxi you exercise patience. You will need it.
