Train from Frankfurt timing issue question

Our flight from US to Frankfurt is supposed to arrive at 6:15 am - if I buy train tickets for the 7:35 departure to Bolzano - and our flight is delayed - would our tickets be transferable to the next train? There are 7 of us traveling together so I would like to reserve seats.

Or vice versa - if I purchase the later train tickets (9:35) and we arrive on time and would be able to take earlier train - would they allow that?

Simple answer:

Saver fare tickets are train-specific. They will be useless if you miss the scheduled train or want to catch an earlier train.
Flex-fare tickets are not train-specific. Use them on the date for which you purchase them at any time of day on the ticketed route. Expect to pay €200+ per person for such tickets.

Does the train you want go from the airport - Frankfurt Flughafen Fernverkehr - or from the main station in Frankfurt - Frankfurt (Main) Hbf?

On a tight schedule, such things count a lot. Not for ticket type, explained above, but for chance or not that you might make the train you want.

The 7.35 AM connection in Frankfurt is tight, especially in the summer.
Not sure how DB would handle the tickets if you plan to buy them directly. I have travelled by train after landing in Frankfurt, but the tickets were part of the LH flight price. Once, I did not make my train, and had to go to the LH customer service counter to get rebooked.

The train leaves from the airport station - which I’ve heard is directly underneath the airport??
I think to be safe we should book the later train and hope for no long airline delays!

There are 2 stations at the airport. The one that is under Terminal 1, is the Regional train station. These trains would not have any reserved seats on them. The long distance train station is under the Squaire, so adjacent to Terminal 1, but about a 10 min. walk. This is where you will find the long distance trains, like the ICE.
Which airline are you flying with? If you land at Terminal 2, you will need to add in the time it takes to get to Terminal 1. Google your flight and # and it will tell you the terminal.

Personally, the 7:35 train sounds way too rushed. It will stress you out worrying about making it .

Do you have any other long distance train travel planned? This is a scenario where getting an Eurail Pass may be a good option.

A Flexpreis Frankfurt AirPort - Bolzano is 161.25, A four day adult pass is 283,-

Or a 3 day German Railway pass, especially the twin. The German Railpass is actually valid till Bolzano on the RJ services.
