Train from Dusseldorf Airport to Monchengladbach Hbf

Hi guys

My friend & I, first time travellers to Germany, we will arrive in Dusseldorf Airport before the end of the month and we need to catch a train to Monchengladbach Hbf.

Unfortunately we are totally clueless! Do we catch the airport SkyTrain to Dusseldorf Hbf? Or is there another train that we need to catch make our way to Dusseldorf Hbf?
Will it be necessary to purchase tickets online? Or is it ok to purchase these at the train station?

Many thanks, your tips and feedback will be much appreciated.

There is an S-bahn station at the terminal that will take you to the Hbf, so no need to monkey with the Sky-Train. You can buy tickets from the station vending machine.

This is a local journey, so fares won't be too expensive if you book on the day.

Hi,

From Düsseldorf Airport you can choose to go Düsseldorf Hbf by S and U Bahn (subway) as well as Regional Bahn. At Düsseldorf Hbf take the train direct to Mönchengladbach Hbf., direction Venlo (Holland).

The U-Bahn does not go to/from the airport. Take the S-11 at the Flughafen-Terminal station. You can actually stay on until Neuss (smaller station) before changing to the S-8 to Moenchengladbach, (or the RE13 or RE4). They go every 20 minutes, takes 45-60 minutes depending on connection times at Neuss and whether you change to the S-bahn or the RE, cost is 11 euro pp.

Lovy99,

Unless I wrote my notes incorrectly, all three (including the U-Bahn) go from DUS to Düsseldorf Hbf. You'll have to check that out at Hbf. The S-1 also connects DUS and Düsseldorf Hbf.

"Or is there another train that we need to catch to make our way to Düsseldorf Hbf.?" If it's a train you want , there are also the RE-2, 3, and RE-5, all going from DUS to Hbf.
