I want to go by train from the Berlin airport to Friedrichstrasse in Berlin. Am I correct that my ticket for the Airport Express train (FEX) covers further travel on S-Bahn train(?) from the Berlin Hbf to Friedrichstrasse? Also, is it possible/easier for me to take an S-Bahn train all the way from the airport to Friedrichstrasse? Any guidance about buying the train ticket?
Looks like Friedrichstrasse and BER are on the #9 S-Bahn:

There are yellow BVG ticket machines in the baggage claim area at BER.
If you are planning to use public transit for a few days and or go to Potsdam, consider a multi-day ticket for zones A B C (which will cover your trip from the airport into the city, and will cover a trip on the S-Bahn to and from Potsdam). You'll validate your ticket on the platform at BER before you board, then you won't need to validate it again.
The S9 is direct from BER to Friedrichstrasse station. FEX would require a change.
You can put your journey into Google Maps to see the options.
Important for future readers: route of FEX train will change in December 2025 - future route will be via Potsdamer Platz and Südkreuz, no longer via Ostkreuz and Gesundbrunnen.
roger, of course you can take mentioned S9 but as written on page linked in #1 the RB23 and RE8 are faster connections to Friedrichstrasse with less stops. Same ticket.
Due to often maintenance and interruptions I recommend to check VBB journey planner for best connection before traveling.
Do not forget to time stamp paper tickets for validation.
