Train Frequency Along Rhein

We will be traveling to Ruedesheim, St. Goar, and Lahnstein on the Rhein, and Cochem on the Mosel. Are trains frequent enough that we can just go to the train station, buy tickets, and expect a train to come along fairly soon?

I have been confused by online info I've found on this subject. Don't trains run at least once per hour in each direction?

Trains are regular along the Rhine, but you should just use the Bahn.de site or the DB Navigator app to find out schedules. Just turning up at the station and waiting for the train is not something you do. You find out when the train is and then go to the station a few minutes beforehand.

Northbound trains from Ruedesheim leave every hour at minute 6, some times also at minute 36. Trains on the left bank (St Goar, Boppard etc.) are more frequent. Download the DB Navigator App for details.

On the Ruedesheim-Lahnstein side of the river, VIA trains run at least once per hour, with extra trains during commuter hours M-F.
On the St Goar side of the river, twice per hour plus a few express trains. Cochem to Koblenz twice per hour.

Sam has it right. Another thing you need to know is that these are regional trains, and if you take more than a couple trips you can save a lot of money using the Deutschland Pass, which allows you to ride all the regional trains for a monthly fee of 49 Euros. Buy this in advance and then just use the DB app on your phone to check the schedules and times.

Thanks for that info about the Deutschland Pass. That sounds like a great deal.

Looking into it, I see that to keep it from auto-renewing, the subscription must be canceled by the 10th of the month, to cancel it for the following month (and beyond). We will be traveling only in September. So, if we cancelled the pass on September 5th, am I correct that we would still be able to use the pass for the rest of September?

It is worthwhile to take the time to learn how to read the timetables that you'll find posted at the station. Sometimes it's hard to find anyone you can ask for help. You can find examples online.

If you use the DB app you can plug in the two locations you are going to and from and a time and it will list all the trains for the next 4 hours.

Rome2rio is also good for this as it will show the busses and city trams.
