Train/bus from Boppard to Burg Eltz

Lee posted earlier about this train/bus, Boppard to Burg Eltz, and that it's only good on the weekends. I plan Saturday Sept. 23 for this, 2 adults leaving Boppard at 9:39 AM arriving Burg Eltz at 11:38 AM.

It doesn't look too terribly complicated to follow what is written on the website, I think we could do it. Is this still available? Could we buy tickets in advance or just get them at the Boppard train station? Is that a manned station or is it ticket machines only?

Anything else I should know about this??

If you go to the German Rail schedule and ticketing webpage, you will see that the connection will be available for Sept 23.

That bus only runs on Saturdays and Sundays, and not all year long (but then, Burg Eltz is not open all year long).

When I stayed in Boppard in 2004, there was a ticket counter in the Bhf, but it was not open all hours. It looks like it might no longer be there. No problem. Buy the ticket from an automat.

For 2 adults, Boppard to Burg Eltz, round trip, buy a Minigruppenkarte, Preisstufe 9, for 22,10€. It will cover both the trains to and from Hatzenport and the round trip bus to the stop a Wierschem.

No reason to buy in advance as everything is unreserved. Just day of or before being careful to specify the travel day at the ticket machine, and only RE or RB trains to Koblenz where you change trains. No IC trains.

The Castle Bus Schedule is very limited (just 4 per day) so you may want to be a bit careful about which trip you choose. Arriving at 11:38 would mean no return bus until 16:15 - you'd be stuck at the castle for 4.5 hours unless you leave the castle on the footpath to Moselkern and take the train back from there.

Another intact medieval castle you might visit if you have time: Marksburg, overlooking the Rhine just across the river and north from Boppard in the town of Braubach. You can reach Braubach by train via Koblenz or by using a ferry + train strategy.

In Boppard there is a ticket counter across the street from the train station in the post office if you want a person to help. We were there 8/15/17 - 8/17/17.
