Train between Nuremberg and Salzburg

What we should do between Nuremburg and Salzburg ? We leave Nuremburg july 23 (saturday) and go to Salzburg on the same day. We will be in Salzburg for 3 nights (daytrip to Berchestgaden and maybe Hallstatt).

1) Go directly to Salzburg (3 hours ride ICE + IC)

2) Stop for 3-4 hours on the way (regensburg ? Prien Am Chiemsee ? somewhere else )

The main issue for me will be how much luggage you have. If you have a lot, it won't be fun dragging it around where you stop off. Only the largest stations in Germany tend to have luggage lockers, but I think you can check facilities on the Deutsche Bahn website.

According to the Stationsdatenbank on Bayern-Takt, the website for local rail in Bavaria, there are lockers in the stations at both Regensburg and at Prien am Cheimsee.

I think I would prefer stopping at Prien and seeing Herrenchiemsee palace (I did that in 2009 and used the lockers at the station. They are on the outside wall of the station, next to track 1).

thanks !

Since we already miss the best deals for the fast trains we will wait to be there to decide what we're gonna do. I'm I wrong to think that Bayern pass is always the same price ? The only thing that bugs us is the fact that seat reservation is not possible on local trains. We dont want to be standing up for the whole train ride.

Local trains make stops every few minutes- people get off and on constantly. They are never full. Your worry about not having a place to sit is unfounded.

That's correct. Local trains don't allow reservations. Sometimes they are very crowded to the point no seat is available. You stand just as the locals would do. It's a bit more taxing if you have luggage in tow.
