Traditional music and food in Munich

My husband and I will have one day and evening, (Monday, April 6), in Munich before we fly home. This is the end of our Vienna/Salzburg trip. We plan to stay in the Old Town near the central train station for ease. I think we'll take the train from Salzburg Monday morning and simply meander in the city all day. My question is if anyone has recommendations for a place for traditional food and music for an early dinner? I see the world-famous Hofbräuhaus Brewery as an option but am open to other traveler's experiences. Thank you :)

Munich is a city with a large number of musical students.. Depending on the weather you can often find a place in an outdoor cafe to sit and hear a team of buskers playing in the evenings. Try the Augustiner Beerhalls (there are several, I prefer the one by the hunting and fishing museum), the Lowenbraukeller, or the Spatenhaus by the Opera. For something smaller try Schneiders, across the street from the McDonalds by the Rathaus.

For a traditional lunch you must have weissewurst, and before noon.

have you got your hotel reservation yet?

The reason I ask is that the area around the Hauptbahnhof (Hbf) is a huge construction area and not easy to get around and not very pleasant at the moment. You might consider being a little further away. Remember that the S-Bahn links all the central Munich stations So that as long as you were close to one of them you were close to everywhere.

The same S-Bahn lines also serve the airport - S1 and S8 for the airport, a whole slew of them in the central area.

Specifically for music, the Hofbrauhaus is the most dependable for traditional music, they basically always have a band. Other beerhalls it can be hit or miss, especially on a Monday. You can get "okay" food at the Hofbrau, there are better restaurants, I would be inclined to find a good meal, then finish the evening at the Hofbrau for a little music. As it gets closer, maybe browse the websites of the bigger beer halls, they may list entertainment.

The Hofbräuhaus would be a reasonable choice, especially considering that you'll only be there for one day. Rather than the raucous beer hall on the main floor, you could try the large dining hall on the top floor. It's a fairly large room and I don't remember it being excessively noisy. I had dinner there one night, and they had a Bavarian-themed show on the stage at the end of the room.

There's an event listed at the Hofbräuhaus on April 5 (probably in the main floor beer hall), but I didn't see anything for April 6.
