Tours / Tour Guides

Hello! I am planning a vacation for end of May/beginning of June for myself, husband and two sons, 18 and 20. Here is our very basic itinerary. I am starting to fill in with activities, etc.

5/25 Arrive Munich AM - train to Nurnberg
5/26-5/28 Nurnberg. Visit Nurnberg, Rothenberg, possibly Bamburg
5/28-5/31 Salzburg
5/31-6/4 Munich
6/4 Depart Munich AM

For these cities/areas, I am looking for recommendations for tours/tour guides. Tours I have already looked into are: SOM bike tour in Salzburg, Eagle's Nest/Salt Mines. In Munich I am looking at a few brewery/food walking tours, BMW plant tour and a day trip to Zugspitze.

I don't really want city bus tours, looking for smaller walking or bike tours that will be entertaining, engaging and not large groups.

Thank you so much for recommendations!!

Check out TripAdvisor.com or just google the city and ask for day tours.

By the way, how are you going to see Nurnberg, Rothenberg and Bamburg in less than two days, since the 26th and 28th are both travel day?

Rothenberg is about 100KM from Nurnberg and Bamburg is probably faster away.

Salzburg you are there for two days, I guess you are not going to see Berchtesgaden.

You need more time to see what you are planning.

Thank you for your feedback, here's a better breakdown:

5/25 - We fly into Munich, arrive at 8:20am - leave airport and train to Nurnberg
5/26 - Nurnberg
5/27 - Nurnberg
5/28 - Nurnberg / Afternoon train to Salzburg
5/29 - Salzburg
5/30 - Salzburg
5/31 - Salzburg / Train to Munich
6/1 - Munich
6/2 - Munich
6/3 - Munich
6/4 - Fly out 10am

We might not have enough time to do Nurnberg, Rothenburg and Bamburg. We do plan to see Eagle's Nest/Salt Mines in Salzburg.

You will want to reserve the BMW plant tour in advance, either by phone or email (info at the bottom of the linked page). Even if you are unable to take the tour (sold out; unavailable due to plant holiday shutdowns, etc.) the museum itself is well worth a visit. You can visit the museum without a guided tour. I don't know where you will be staying in Munich; when I was last there I stayed near Marienplatz and was able to use the subway system to get to the BMW site.

I have already tried to book a plant tour - the schedule isn't released past April yet. I will keep checking, so hopefully we will be able to tour. The museum looks great too! We are staying near the Marienplatz as well. We are planning to use subway/trains for everything. Glad to hear it is easy to get to BMW from there.

Thank you!!

In Munich Mike's Bikes is a reputable bike rental and tour company. I always rent bike from there when I'm in town.

Yep. They also just rent bikes and can provide you with a map and suggest route or you can just wing it like we do!

Another Munich company is Munich Walks which has bike/walking tours, as well as tours of the market and the St Pauli brewery
