Tours out of Munich

We have an extra day in Bavaria this fall should we tour Neuschswanstein or Rothenburg?

Without knowing what else you have seen in Bavaria it is tough to make suggestions. Bavaria is a huge state. That said, I would go to Regensburg, rather than the 2 places you suggested. They both have long transportation to get there and back. If you only have 1 extra day, go someplace closer.
Regensburg has lots of Roman sites, Jewish sites, Half-timbered houses, Thurn & Taxis palace, and one of the most beautiful churches I have seen.

... and I'll add, without knowing in the least bit what you are interested in.

If you want to do what everyone else does, do Neuschwanstein or Rothenburg, by all means. You'll find enough information on that everywhere.

If you are interested in coming up with something more original than the standard route, you'll have to let us know.

It's a pity everybody seems to flock to the handful of heavily promoted sights. They are hardly the best Germany has on offer, if only because the atmosphere is totally ruined by the masses of foreign tourists.
The few suggestions I gave are easily reached by train (Herrenchiemsee plus a boat to bring you to the island) if one uses the train planner of the Deutsche Bahn and the excellent OpenStreetMap.

I'd choose Neuschwanstein. Be sure to make castle tour reservations unless you take an organized tour from Munich

Now I'd be curious. On what grounds are you recommending one over the other? Is it just because you assume that someone who apparently hasn't done much research themselves nor is willing to give us any information at all is going to be better off doing Neuschwanstein? In that case, you may in fact have a point.

Ftz8's contributions to this forum consist of three such monosyllabic questions, giving us no background information whatsoever, letting us guess at the point of his/her questions, not even to mention ever replying.
