Touring day in the Kiel, Lubeck & Hamburg area

Our ship docks in Kiel on one day of our Baltic Cruise. From other experiences, what is the best way to see Kiel, Hamburg, and Lubeck in eight hours?

Can't do all three. There was a good Lubeck post in the past, try the search box top center.

Both Lübeck and Hamburg are over an hour from Kiel one way in the car. When we were there the construction on the A7 out of Hamburg was terrible. We found a lot to do in Kiel while we were there. We did have a car so that gave us some flexibility. We went to the beach and to see a light house in Friedrichsort. We also went to the WWI/WWII Flandernbunker. They had some really interesting exhibits there. If you speak some German, they are more powerful. But it is still cool walking around an old bunker. Watch your head and footing as it is a bit rough. We went to the aquarium as well. It was 3 euros and it only took about 10 mins to walk through, but we were there when they were feeding the sharks and rays and it was awesome. They also have seehunds (seals) outside. Across the harbor is a Uboat memorial. Then an actual Uboat you can go through in Laboe. We got there 5 mins before it closed up for the night due to a goofy gps mix up. So we literally ran through it. It was really cool. I wouldn't want to be the poor person who had to sleep under the torpedo. In Labo there is also a maritime memorial, we didn't have enough time to go through it, but it is on the list for next time. I also wanted to see the Ostsee-Nordsee Kanal other than driving over it, but not enough time.

If I had to pick between Lübeck and Hamburg, I would pick Lübeck. We really enjoyed the Altstadt Part. We did the Holstein Gate, The Rathaus, many of the Churches, Hüxstrasse (shopping), ate some Marzipan at Neiderigger, then the surprise of the day that I wish my feet didn't hurt so I could actually mentally engage more in was the Willy Brandt Museum. It was free and very interactive. It had a huge impact on me. I am looking for ways to incorporate Lübeck back into our next trip so I can go back to the museum.

We also did Hamburg and there was a lot to see there, and more than you can do in 6ish hours. I can give suggestions if you would like here as well.

Just wondering if anyone else has docked in Kiel and headed out for a day in that city and Lubeck? The last response to my original question indicated that it's just not possible to do Kiel, Lubeck and Hamburg, so we're happy to just do Kiel and Lubeck. Is there a website offering day-tours to those two places?

Hi,

I spent a day in Kiel this time, not my first time there though. With the time you have I suggest taking the Hafenrundfahrt, all in German, all anouncements, no audiophones, on this harbour tour....great. It goes from Kiel to Laboe, you'll see the memorial there and the U-Boat one too. It lasts close to two hours by the time the ferry returns.
