tour from Mainz to Cologne and Wife Bday celebration

Hello , I want to celebrate my wife Bday hence planning to go to cruise trip from Mainz to Cologne though thats not fixed route but as we are staying in Mainz its good to start from Mainz .What should be the travel itinerary , I have two days Sunday and Monday. I want to celebrate wife bday on Cruise in night, not sure if it would be possible .
I am planning to take Cruise from Mainz to Koblenz on Sunday which I hope cover the Bingen as well then from Koblenz to Cologne by train and bus on the same day .Spend the next whole day in Cologne and return back to Mainz on same day by train or bus
Does it make sense ? Please advise me

"I am planning to take Cruise from Mainz to Koblenz on Sunday..."

Because English probably isn't your native language, it's a little unclear whether "on Sunday" to you means tomorrow, Sunday Oct. 16. That's what it means to the rest of us. So... if you look at the KD off season boat schedule, you will see that there's only one boat from Mainz tomorrow at 9:30.

To reach Koblenz you would have a layover of 5 hours in one of the Rhine towns, then catch the boat to Koblenz, where you would arrive at 20:10. So yes, part of your cruise would be at night. Take the train to Cologne after that.

Alternatively, take the train to Bingen and catch a boat there. Then your cruise will take only 3.7 hours as long as you use the 9:15, 14:15, or 16:15 through boats to Koblenz. This is a better choice for most people, IMO, as the scenery isn't so great between Mainz and Bingen.

(If you do not mean tomorrow, please indicate your travel dates. The cruise season is over very soon.)

For most visitors, I would normally recommend the train from Mainz to Bingen and a cruise from Bingen to St. Goar or Bingen to Boppard. This is the most scenic part - you will see a lot of castles on the way - and it takes 1.5 and 2.3 hours, respectively. Spend the additional time you have in one of the towns (Boppard is nice) and have a nice meal together somewhere. Then take the train to Cologne.

Thanks for reply!!

I would be travelling to 23 October (Sunday) . I think the best idea to get the cruise from Bingen to Boppard then Cologne by train. I just want to celebrate bday on a very special place not sure if cruise have journey late night till 12 AM
