Greetings, I'm wondering if this is too much for one day or not. We're staying in Garmisch and we will have a car. We'd like to do a little loop and see Ettal, Oberammergau, Linderhof and the Wieskirche. I imagine 2 hrs max to walk around Oberammargau and no more than 20-30 minutes to see the Wieskirche. Then maybe 2 hours each for Linderhof and Ettal. So, say, 6-7 hours plus drive time and lunch. Is it ridiculous and too much, or doable if we don't linger too long in any one place? Thank you for your replies.
Judy,
Doable.
Linderhof is worth the 2 hours. It's about what we spent there. No problem.
Ettal we spent less than 2 hours.
Oberammergau we didn't really care for much. We did have lunch and walk around. Two hours is plenty.
Wieskirche is outstanding inside. 30 minutes or so would be about right.

I don't see much wrong with that. It may take you a bit of time to get parked at Wieskirche, and a bit of time to get in if there are lots of tour groups.
I don't think I was anywhere near 2 hours at Ettal and I love it there.
Oberammergau may take nearly 2 hours to walk around if you look at every item in every window.
I could (and have done) drive that route and have plenty of time left over. And I happen to like all those.
You can easily do this as a day trip drive. We often took guests on just this route when we lived in O'gau. If you have any beer lovers in the group you might check out the beers produced at the Abbey while you're in Ettal ( obviously the driver will have to abstain).
Ok. Whew. Thank you for your replies. It didn't look all that far apart on Google maps but I figured that maybe someone here would know something that I didn't.
I would never look in every window of every shop, even if I had all day! That doesn't appeal to me...
But while I'm on the subject of Oberammargau, where is the best place to park for a couple hours?
Judy,
You'll come to a parking lot/area at the edge/beginning of the village. Very hard to miss.

I think I spent 6 or 7 hours at Linderhof. The palace tour itself doesn't take very long, but the grounds are beautiful and extensive. Make sure you see the grotto (althought I thought I heard it might be closed right now). I also had a very good, leisurely lunch at the Gaststätte there.
As for Wieskirche, I walked in, looked around for a few minutes, realized it was just like so many other overly gawdy Rocco churches I've seen in Bavaria, and went across the street for an early lunch. Didn't take me more than 5 minutes to see Wieskirche.
@ Paul... Thank you!!
@ Lee.. I think I read that the grotto is indeed closed. It's too bad cause I would love to see it!
