Tipping post Covid

Any first hand experience on whether tipping in a restaurant has changed since 2020? Here in my state it has been as much as 25% of the bill. Is it still “ Trink Geld?” Ie just a little? Thanks! Don’t want to be impolite.

I spend most of my Germany time, in Berlin ... and I usually only tip my bartender ... I tip on the educational part of the evening.

Tipping is the same, 5-10% if you liked the service. Don't leave it on the table, have your server do it for you. If your bill was say, 26 €, give them a 50 and tell them 28€ or 29€ and they give you the correct change back. If you are paying by card, tell the server so they can add that amount in. Yes, they get this money at the end of their shift when they are cashing out at the end of the day.
Don't mistake the service charge for a tip, that money goes to the owner and not ever to the server.

I wound up tipping 15-20% in Germany. Probably due to guilt over Covid, since I know Europe tourism was hit hard. But also because I worked as a server while I was in college, so I know how hard the work is.

Keep in mind that most, if not all restaurants are now using contactless bills - the server brings the machine to your table, and if you plan to tip you have to let them know how much to add onto the bill.

I confirm all that Ms. Jo says: 5-10 %, and announcing what you will pay to the server, with tip included.
